The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has commended community members for their support in the arrest of a 20-year-old man, Pascal Ogbogu, who allegedly murdered his 56-year-old father with a machete in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area.
The suspect was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, 2026, following a coordinated effort by police operatives, family members and members of the Abatete Vigilante.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, August 25, when Ogbogu allegedly attacked his father before fleeing the scene.
Following a distress report, operatives from the Eziowelle Police Division and community members mobilised to the scene, where they found the deceased in a pool of blood with a deep machete wound to his throat.
The body was evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The suspect was subsequently tracked and arrested with the assistance of timely information provided by community members.
Commending the efforts of those involved, CP Oji Ama said, “Effective community participation, timely information sharing and strong partnership between the Police and local communities remain important to successful policing and the protection of lives and property.”
The Commissioner directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and a comprehensive review of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He assured the deceased’s family and members of the public that the investigation would be conducted professionally and diligently, while the suspect would face due process upon conclusion of the investigation.
