The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected human parts merchants and recovered suspected human parts, including a human heart, flesh and pieces of human skull, from their hideouts in Iseyin and Saki.
The suspects were paraded at the Oyo State Police Command headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.
One of the suspects, Nurudeen Ganiyu, said he was initially arrested by the police and later assisted investigators in apprehending other suspects.
He disclosed that he was introduced to the crime by a friend who told him to mix a portion of ground human skull with fried eggs, claiming it would bring him fortune. According to him, the practice did not yield the expected result.
Another suspect said he also mixed ground human skull with a snail meal for ritual purposes, believing it would bring him wealth.
Wasiu Tijani told journalists that he used human flesh for a ritual he believed would bring him fortune, but the ritual was unsuccessful.
Another suspect, Abiola Nasiru, was found in possession of different human body parts. He confessed that the parts were intended for rituals believed to bring wealth to people.
Nasiru said he usually obtained the human parts from Taofeeq Raheem, who also confessed to visiting cemeteries to exhume and harvest body parts from corpses, particularly about eight days after burial.
