Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving greater self-reliance in defence production as it seeks to deepen its strategic partnership with Türkiye.

The commitment was made at the 7th Nigeria–Türkiye Defence Industries Cooperation Meeting in Abuja, where Nigeria emphasised the need to build a defence industry capable of meeting the requirements of the Armed Forces.

The meeting focused on translating the framework provided by the DICON Act 2023 into tangible industrial capacity, local production and technological capability.

Nigeria said Türkiye remains an important partner in its drive to strengthen defence preparedness, develop human capital, create jobs and expand opportunities for local industries and investors.

The country also expressed readiness to advance defence-industrial self-reliance while strengthening technology transfer and domestic manufacturing capacity.

The Nigerian side commended the Turkish Defence Industry delegation, the Armed Forces, the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), stakeholders and prospective investors for their commitment to building a resilient defence industry.

It said a stronger domestic defence industry would not only serve Nigeria’s national security interests but also contribute to the country’s wider economic and technological development agenda.
