The Vice Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has urged Nigerians to draw lessons from the life of Prophet Muhammad by promoting unity, justice and accountability in the country.

Amaechi made the call in a message shared on his X handle to commemorate Eid el Maulud, which marks the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, on Tuesday, August 25.

The former Rivers State governor said Nigeria was facing economic hardship, insecurity and declining public confidence in governance, urging citizens and leaders to respond to the challenges with “faith, unity, and moral leadership.”

“As you celebrate, we must all reflect on the state of our nation. Nigeria is confronted with pressing challenges, including economic hardship, insecurity threatening communities, and a crisis of confidence in governance,” he said.

Amaechi said the commemoration should go beyond celebration, describing it as a “solemn call to action” for Nigerians to work towards a more just and united country.

“We must recommit ourselves to building a Nigeria where justice is upheld, and unity is strengthened across ethnic and religious divides,” he said.

He also called for greater attention to the welfare of Nigerians, alongside accountability and inclusive governance.

“We must prioritize the welfare of ordinary Nigerians, ensure accountability, inclusive governance, and foster a spirit of patriotism to overcome our challenges as a nation,” Amaechi added.

The ADC vice-presidential candidate urged Nigerians to use the occasion to rekindle hope and strengthen national bonds.

“As we mark Eid el Maulud, let us draw inspiration from the Prophet’s teachings to rekindle hope, strengthen our bonds, and build a Nigeria that works. May this season bring peace and joy to our homes,” he said.
