The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, will on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, turban Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as the Sardauna of Ilorin.
The ceremony is scheduled for 10am at the Emir’s Palace in Ilorin.
According to a statement by the Emir’s spokesman, Dr AbdulAzeez Arowona, the event is expected to attract government officials, captains of industry, traditional rulers from within and outside Kwara State, religious leaders and other dignitaries.
The title was conferred on AbdulRazaq, who is also Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, in recognition of his leadership, commitment to peace and unity, and the development recorded across the state under his administration.
The Emir directed that the ceremony should also be used to offer special prayers for continued peace, progress and prosperity in Ilorin Emirate, Kwara State and Nigeria.
“Members of the public, government functionaries, traditional title holders, religious leaders, and well-wishers are cordially invited to witness the historic ceremony,” Arowona quoted the Emir as saying.
The turbaning is expected to further highlight the traditional institution’s recognition of the governor’s administration and its development efforts in the state.
