Lagos Assembly Passes Sanwo-Olu’s N4.44trn 2026 Budget Reordering Bill

The Lagos State House of Assembly has passed into law Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s 2026 Budget Reordering Bill, revising the state’s budget to ₦4.44 trillion.

The bill was passed on Tuesday after lawmakers considered and adopted the report of the House Committee on Economic Planning and Budget.

Presenting the report during plenary, the committee chairman, Hon. Olumoh Sa’ad, said the reordering was necessary to address disparities in the implementation of capital projects across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The committee said while some MDAs had recorded substantial implementation of their capital provisions, others had experienced lower levels of implementation, affecting the delivery of projects and the overall performance of the 2026 budget.

It said the reordering would allow the government to take a more focused approach to capital investment, accelerate project execution and improve budget performance.

According to the committee, the state’s budget performance stood at 69 per cent as of June 30, 2026, while recurrent revenue was 79 per cent, recurrent expenditure 73 per cent and capital expenditure 66 per cent.

The revised budget prioritises transportation infrastructure, completion of hospital projects, housing, environmental sanitation and waste management, security and emergency equipment, as well as other critical infrastructure across the state.

Under the revised framework, ₦2.077 trillion is allocated to recurrent expenditure, while ₦2.368 trillion is earmarked for capital expenditure, bringing the total budget to ₦4.445 trillion.

After deliberations, the House adopted the committee’s recommendations and passed the Budget Reordering Bill into law following a vote conducted by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Obasa subsequently directed that the resolutions of the House be communicated to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.

The Assembly later adjourned plenary to November 2, 2026.
