President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has met with Vincent Bolloré, chairman of the Bolloré Group, and other executives in Paris to discuss expanding the group’s investments in Nigeria’s creative and digital economy.

Tinubu disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the discussions focused on opportunities across film, entertainment, fibre optics and the digital economy.

“Through Canal+, MultiChoice, Universal Music and other businesses, they are looking to do more in Nigeria. They see our country as the arrowhead of Africa’s cultural awakening, powered by Nollywood, Afrobeats and the growing global appetite for Nigerian culture,” the President said.

Tinubu said Nigeria was experiencing a significant cultural moment globally, with the country’s music, films, fashion and creative works gaining international attention.

“Our music fills stadiums across continents. Our films and stories are reaching new audiences. Nigerian creativity, fashion and culture are commanding global attention,” he said.

He said the government’s focus was to convert the growing international interest in Nigerian culture into sustainable economic opportunities for Nigerians.

“We must turn this moment into lasting economic value for our people,” Tinubu said.

The President said he was seeking increased local production and investment in Nigeria’s creative industries and infrastructure, as well as more employment opportunities for young Nigerians.

“I want more of the value created by Nigerian talent to remain in Nigeria. More production at home. Greater investment in our local industries and infrastructure. More opportunities and jobs for our young people,” he said.

Tinubu added that he had consistently advocated greater localisation by MultiChoice as part of efforts to ensure more value from Nigeria’s creative economy remained within the country.

“Our reforms are creating the conditions for investment and growth. My responsibility is to ensure that these investments translate into real opportunities for Nigerians,” he said.

“This is the purpose of the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
